2 weeks ago our active thrust temperature increase above normal operating range by +10F. Normal active thrust bearing temperature roughly 192F. This is on the first of three stages. Due to the service, we inject a total of 1.08 GPM of wash oil & 13.35 GPM of condensate for fouling purposes. This ratio keeps us under the rule of thumb of 5% of total flow going through the machine being liquid (at the ratio, 4.8% is liquids).

On the attachment, you can see that on 5/14 active thrust temperature increase above normal operating range by +10F (Axial vibration increased 1.6 mils). 5/17-5/20 we had severe weather conditions with active thrust temperature reaching 210F. Days after the temperature & vibration decreased significantly. for the past seven days the temperature & vibration have return to normal operating conditions.
Attachment: Red=Vibrations, Purple=Temperature

My question is why for the excursion? All data leads to the balance piston. Leading to my next question, are we fouling or experiencing wear on the balance position? My thoughts if we were experiencing fouling, the machine would thrust toward the inactive bearing. IF your were fouling or seeing excessive wear, woulding you see it over time? Thanks in advance.
