Does anyone have a reference for bending moments and stress calculations in a short deep cantilever beam (crane hook). The only one i found is in Roark Section 8.1 Heywood formula.

Look for text books on "Advanced Strength of Meterials", this topic is well covered under such.

Are you considering that it's a curved beam? On something like a crane hook, that has a major effect on stress.

Look for the textbook Advanced Mechanics of Materials, by Boresi and Sidebottom. They have a chapter on curved beams with a specific example discussing the analysis of a crane hook. The curved beam stresses are very important.

Talk to Crosby. They have an excellent engineerig department and could probably help you. Hooks are generally forged and may need to consider other design factors beyond just strains.
