Hey everyone,

I am trying to model a solid fluid body from a cavity inside an ASSEMBLY file, and I would like to create a part file of only the solid body to export for CFD analysis. What would be the best approach to do so? I am using SW2011. Any help would be appreciated.

Depending on your geometry a simple cavity feature may be all that is needed but since you mention an assembly I assume there are multiple parts. I would create a new part in the assembly and edit it. Do a 0 offset off all wetted surfaces. Save this part out as an external file. Open it. Knit and try to form a solid on all surfaces. You may need to mutual trim, cap an end or find some surfaces you missed. I hope this helps.

Tough to say without seeing your assembly. When I have to do this I usually save the assy as a part. Then I can create a body in the part encompassing the internal volume (generally using the combine feature).

Thanks for all the input! I'll give these ideas a try to distinguish the best method.

I would take a closer look at your CFD software. In most cases, the software will automatically create a part to represent all internal geometry. This means that you may not need to manually create the internal part, but could instead just add caps over all holes to create a watertight perimeter and then let the software create the internal part for you on startup
