Hello,

Using NX5.0.4.1, can I create a mesh and export it for use in moldflow? We have Advanced Simulation license.

There is not much work in UG so I would like to help out the moldflow department by creating meshes in UG.

Is UG capable of creating mid planes?
What kind of files can I use for export so that moldflow can read it in?

Thanks!

NX can create what is known as a Midsurface to be used most usually by FEA strength analysis rather than moldflow. You'll find it under Insert>Surface>Midsurface.

Hello,

Thanks for the info. It's hard to use the mid plane.
I have a wheel liner and the mold flow analyst just use the A surface of the wheel liner then create mid planes for the ribs. I tried to create the mid plane with different options but the result is not good. He will be doing it on mold flow instead.

Yes Midsurface does not suit all geometry if the design is not pretty much a thin shell to start with it can take a very long time and produce unusable results. No fault of the software just that you'd be asking something of it that is unreasonable to expect.
