Hi,

When I'm doing some studies, and need to measure distance between components that are aligned properly in side view but far apart with respect to depth, the number i get from using the measurement tool is 3D distance. So even tho the parts maybe close from the side view, actual distance is much more and i can't choose to show the component distance. Is there a way to show the component rather than the 3D and any way to show the disatnce without incorporating depth?

thank you

While you have the 3d mesasurement tool running, click the customize button.. You can select it to show the x,y, and z components of the points selected, and the change in x y and z, as well as the true distance (which it shows as default). There are some other options in there as well.

If you have the FTA workbench, you could add a dimension that shows the distance you described.

Hi,

In the dialog box you can change the option for infinite geometry, so // faces will give you the // distance between 'infinite' planes and not 3D distance...

note that Abaddon gave you another way to have the information, but this will work only if your faces are // to any of the default (or other) axis planes.
