Creating a large mesh of thin parts

Hi all,
I am looking to create a thin layer of multiple wires/thin metal strips. At first I would assume to do this one part would be created then using the linear pattern tool in the assembly to multiply the part. However I can only assume this would increase the computational demand far too high. Is there anyway to create a mesh of parts such as a cross hatch?
