I want to have a part or assembly for all of my stairs.

Idealy i would like to bring in the part and give it a height, length and width and let inventor decide on the number and size of steps based on constraints such as the height of each step being between 200-250mm.

Ive had some sucess using iparts but cant get it to decide how many steps i need???

You would need to define an equation in the Excel sheet based on the length. Problem is that you define the length at creation time so you cannot use the Excel formulas to do this. Catch 22.

The best way to handle parts like this is to make a template part with an embedded spreadsheet. Then as you change the length of the part, the formulas in the Excel sheet create the correct # of steps.

A template parts is nothing more than a part that you place in your template directory. Start a new part from it and then modify the Excel sheet to your desire. Then save the part in your active project.
