Hello all,

Simply put, is there a way for me to create a detail view on a different sheet from its parent view? My company has made the migration from MDT to Inventor 11 and I can't seem to figure out how to do this. In MDT, you have to make copies of all the views and throw them off the page so as not to show in the print. More specifically, I have an O-ring groove that I would like to be on the second sheet, but the full section view that it would be coming off of is on sheet one.

Please tell me that Inventor 11 is somehow more advanced in this regard than MDT?..

To the best of my knowledge, there is no way in Inventor 11 to place a detail view on a different sheet than the parent view.

You can drag the view from the page it exists on onto the page you want it on. This is done in the browser, not the sheet itself.

I stand corrected. I had tried this and hadn't gotten it to work but just went back and tried it again. You need to drag the view in the browser directly onto the Sheet name. If you try to place it in with the other views in the sheet it will not work.

Great! Thanks guys, I had not thought about doing it specifically in that browser tree. Good enough for me, thank you both for the quick replies.

Incidently, if you ever want to change titleblocks (for whatever reason,) it is done very similarly. You open the drawing with the T-block you want and copy it from the tree (under "Drawing Resources\Titleblocks.) You then open the drawing you want to update and right-click on "Drawing Resources" and paste. If the names are the same it will ask to overwrite, if not then you have to delete and re-insert.

You're welcome, David...:)

Great tip on dragging a view to another sheet. However, I was not able to copy and paste the title block as suggested. I could right click and copy (presumably to clipboard) but when I entered second drawing, there was no paste option and CTRL V didn't work either. What am I doing wrong? Inv 11 Pro & 2008 Pro

Right-click on the folder "Drawing Resources" and paste.
