Creating Material Libraries

I have been using Pro/E and MSC Nastran for windows for sometine. I have an extensive materials library in Nastran and I am looking for a way to use that data to generate a materials library for the Pro/E users. I t seems to me that Pro/E creates one file for each material while Nastran has one file for all material. If you have done any work on it or you are considering it, let me know so we can exhange ideas. Or maybe someone has a solution for this. Thanks

ProE will want to set up a separate material file for each material. The filename format is filename.mat.

Although it would be nice to have all of the information in one single file, ProE is set up for separate files. If you put all of the files in a single directory, reachable with the config.pro setting PRO_MATERIAL_DIR to indicate the path to that directory, then when you go to set a material, it defaults to that directory.

To create a new collection of material files, use ProE to "Define" a new material, then change the extension on the created file from *.mat to *.txt - this way you can extract the desired material information from your existing database (with Excel, maybe) and easily cut and paste it into the text file you created, using it as a template. Just be sure to name the files something recognizable and change the extension back to *.mat

Dear Recneps,
thanks for the information. I was hoping that there is a way to create a single *.mat file with all my materials. thanks again.
