Creating Plane

I’m trying to create a plane using a plane and an axis, and then putting in a rotation angle. If I use any of the three standard planes there are no issues. If I create a plane at any angle off the original planes (plane_1), put an axis (axis_1) on the newly formed plane (plane_1) and then try to create a new plane at an angle using plane_1 and axis_1 the new plane is screwed from plane_1.

The explanation on the solidworks help guide is:
“If the selected line is skewed with respect to the selected plane, the selected line is projected onto the selected plane and then the plane rotates around the projected line.”

Ok, I’ve done everything to ensure that the line I’m referencing to create the plane at an angle is NOT skewed with respect to plane_1.

Any suggestions?

You could build the plane in a different way.

Instead of rotating a plane about an axis (referencing an existing plane), you can draw a line segment in a sketch, exit the sketch, select the end-point of the sketch and the line itself and create a plane Normal to Curve. It will add the plane on the end of your line segment.

So, you have great control of your angle, by creating your line segment exactly where you want it and by putting exactly the angle on your line that you need. If necessary, you can reference the plane you mentioned within the line segment sketch to drive your angle.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it but without success. While the new plane is technical correct, the skewed angle makes it difficult to create sketch entities relative to the original coordinate system. That is, if I create a square in the skewed plane the sides are no longer orthogonal to the global coordinate system. What I’m trying to do seems so easy I would think that there is some work around other than calculating angles or enforcing parallel constraints.

Thanks,

I've tried, unsuccesfully, to reproduce your problem in both SW06 & SW07.
Can you post a screen-shot of what you are seeing?

"If I create a plane at any angle off the original planes (plane_1)"
Can you also explain how you are doing this?

"put an axis (axis_1) on the newly formed plane (plane_1)"
And this?

Try using a 3D sketch to build your construction geometry for the plane. Also, do not worry if the plane "lines" are not parallel with the existing planes. You can use constraints on the sketch afterwards to align it with existing geometry or other axis.
