I have an input ABAQUS file (text file).. is there any way to get the CAE ABAQUS model of this file without re-creating the model of this file
Thanks

I can do it by import/model option in Abaqus CAE so that you'll have one set of model data (including your properties and boundary conditions), except you use certain option that is not defined for Abaqus CAE.

Hope this help.

Sendy is correct (Corus is not). When you do a file-import-model (*.inp) you will get the mesh, the instances , the materials, sections, section assignments, loads, BCs, steps, output requests etc etc. There may be some things not supported by the import, but you will get informational messages about this is the message area. Also, if you look at the docs you'll find a section at the end of the ABAQUS/CAE manual that describes exactly what is an is not supported.

Brep,

I think what Corus meant was that you only get what's in the .inp file as you listed, you don't get the actual "model" itself, i.e. you do not have the geometry that was used to create the mesh. Thus if the OP wanted to change the mesh, he would have to recreate the geometry from scratch.

Should I save this input file in a specific place in order to be able to import it as a model from CAE. This I am asking because I have saved the file (test.inp) on the C drive and when I go to get it through Import ,the file is not there
Thanks

Just use the normal way of selecting the file from the explorer-type dialog. There's no reason not move it, just as long as you know where to find it ;)

When going to imort I still do not find the file where i have saved it..Why..?
Thanks

Make sure:
1) the file is save with an .inp extension.
2) you are doing File - Import - Model (*.inp)

I am still unable to see it in the folder where i save it The file is saved as notpad with index .inp but when i go to see the properties of the file i find it as text document file . What do you think should be done.
Thanks

Hallo MCC1996,

I ever had that problem. Try to name it by writing *.inp when you're going to save your input file and select "all files" for file type.
Another way is by copy your old input file, open it then write your new input data there. When you save, doing it with "all files" selection in the file type option.

Hope this help.

regards,
Sendy.

Hi MCC1966

You will probably find that the file is called index.inp.txt - Notepad has 'helpfully' added the .txt extension for you. To check this, make sure that you have "Hide extensions for known file types" unchecked in Windows Explorer - it's in "Tools > Folder Options".

Then it's just a case of renaming the file in Windows Explorer to index.inp and you're good to go.

Regards

Martin
