Hi all,

I am trying to model a simple cantilever beam using ABAQUS using 2D plane stress elements. There are two loading steps as defined follows:
1) The first step is a static step with the left end of the cantilever beam encastred and a displacement of 25mm applied at the other end.
2) Its a Visco step used to model creep in the cantilever.

The problem I am getting is that the variation of reaction force at the encastre point during the creep step seems to be heavily dependent on the initial time step I have defined for the analysis. If I use an initial time step of 1 hour, then the reaction force monotonically decays with time, which looks correct. However, if I reduce the initial time step to say 0.1 hour, the reaction force first increases to about 5 fold before it starts to decay. Can anyone explain why this anomaly occurs?

Thanks in advance,
Satyajit
