If Crop is grayed out check to make sure you are trying to crop a view that is not a parent to ANY other kind of views. A projected view is acceptable but if you've taken a detail or section view from it, Crop will become unavailable when anything is selected. Crop only works on standalone views.
If you need a detail or section view, crop the view first, then add the detail or section.
Keep in mind however that should you need to Crop a view that has details or sections taken from it, you will need to delete those views, Crop your view, then re-add the detail or section views.
