cropping/adjusting space size/orientation

I'm an AutoCAD newb, using '05. I have four issues I've been trying to solve.

I have a flange that I scanned on a scanner, cleaned up in a graphics program, then used a utility to convert it from a photoshop file to an autocad file.

1.) The problem is that the drawing space where this object shows up is MUCH larger than the object. Is there any way to trim it down to just a little larger than the object?


2.) The object is in portait orientation, but the paper is in landscape. Is there a way to rotate all of the objects/layers to landscape orientation as it is much wider than it is tall. A simple way, like just rotating the space with the object attached or can you only doing it by rotating each individual object? If this is the only way, after I have selected all of the objects and its standing on its end, I think I'm supposed to click on a point for it to rotate around, would I just select a point at the bottom left corner to have it all rotate 90 degrees to the left?


3.) I have set the scale to 1:2. When I did this, on the paper space, the object got very small and moved down and to the left and it won't seem to let me center it.

The object I'm drawing is 17x4. I'm working with 8.5x11 paper, is this the best scale? I guess I could get 11x17 paper and do it 1:1, but I still need to get the hang of the scale/paper relationship setup. What is the proper way to setup/change the paper/scale?


4.) I've about got everything drawn and am ready to start dimensioning. Like I said, this drawing wasn't created from scratch. I imported it, then traced over all of it. I will be printing on 8.5x11 paper. I have looked in the page setup manager and have my printer and paper size selected. Where do I specify the scale and make sure that my drawing, the paper and whatever other things, are all sync'd to the same scale?

I have been looking and these are the items that I haven't figured out yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In paperspace, the viewport can be modified by using Zoom command with XP option or use the viewport toolbar. This bar can be assessed by right-click in the tool bar area and all toolbar list should appear. Select the viewport border and your scale should show up in viewport toolbar box. You can change the scaling factor in that box. You can change landscape to portait in the Page Setup Dialog box.

Professional Tip:
You need to create a new layer called "viewport" and select that layer before going to paperspace. After getting everything set in paperspace, freeze the layer before printing. This will hid your viewport border.
