Just wanted to ask some one which cross sectional shape is better (more rigid) an I or T shaped one or a closed hollow shape?

If you are considering bending then obviously an I or box will have more material at the top and bottom and hence a greater moment of inertia. You need to do your own homework if you are going to understand the topic.

A closed section (tube) would be more rigid when considering bending through different axis. A T or I are specifically designed for rigidity in only one axis. This is one reason that you often see tubular columns which can resist bending from any direction and generally see T or I sections in beams where the loading is generally in the vertical direction.
