Merry Christmas Tank Builders,

Have you ever built Crude Oil Tank in Dome Roof Tank without internal floating roof ?

In my past experiences I always build the External or Internal Floating roof for Crude Oil Tank.

External or internal floating roof is required due to loss of evaporation issue.

It is common in some areas to build tanks for hydrocarbon storage without a floating roof. Often, a nitrogen blanket or other positive pressure setup is used to control evaporation of the product. There are some products with a high vapor pressure where local regulations prevent the use of a floating roof for emissions control. It is still permitted to use a floating roof for these products, but no credit is given to the emissions control benefit of the floating roof.

In the US, environmental regulations require the use of floating roofs in many cases. Exceptions are tanks below a certain size, or tanks with inert blanketing/vapor recovery systems.

In an area without any regulations, it might still be prudent to use floating roofs for product loss prevention (which I think was the original motivation for them), for fire resistance, for safety, for environmental reasons, etc.
