When would you want to do cryogenic hardening over other heat-treating processes. What are the guidelines and pitfalls of each process?

We've been entertaining some cryogenic hardening but it can't be a pancea for all hardening applications - can it?

We are talking mostly hard irons maybe some stainless steels? Which process would be most likely used for molten salts? Which process would be most likely used for operating temperatures up to 1500 Deg. F (in some cases)?

Would you ever consider using two very hard materials as bearing elements and if so which hardening process would you recommend?

We have many abrasive applicatoins with med. to high percents of solids and high line velocities - so its a tough battle.

Can use some Guidelines? Examples? Any problems you've had with either process would also be appreciated.
