Can ASTM A53 or A106 pipe be used in accordance with CSA s16?

CSA S16 calls out for structural material to be either CSA G40.20/21 or ASTM A992. I find it hard to believe that ASTM pipe isn't used regularly for stanchion and similar applications in the oil & gas industry. Any ideas? Am I off base with my assumption? Do the designers lean on the "unidentified steel" paragraph for this use case?

thanks

You can use other materials, you just need to establish that they are acceptable for the use you are putting them to. See 5.1.1 and the commentary on it. It says that other materials can be used if approved, and the commentary makes it clear that the designer is the one approving them.

Section five is written in a confusing way because it seems to alternate between addressing the designer and the fabricator without clearly differentiating.
