Hi,

I'm having some difficulty completing an assembly. It seems that when I use CTRL+drag from the feature tree to insert another instance of a part, the part that is inserted is always the first one in the assembly, not the one I clicked and dragged.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Has anyone found a way to make it go away?

BTW, I'm running SW2004, SP3 on Win2k SP4 on a P4-1.3ghz with 768mb ram, and an ELSA Synergy 2000 video card (latest drivers). I have already cleaned my temp file, etc.

I have had this happen with some asemblies and I have no idea why. It seems to happen with assemblies created in older versions and opend in 2004. My work around is to insert part, browse to the part and insert it or open the part and drag and drop.

Try dragging from the part itself, see if you still have the problem. If you have the original SolidWorks disc, try running a "fix" on the program.

Dragging from the part works fine, from an explorer folder, and all other methods of inserting parts are ok, but it seems as if the most convenient way of getting multiple parts inserted is the one that refuses to work.

Thanks,
Matt

I mean....open the assy, and in the graphics, cntrl drag one of the surfaces and see if it copies.

Then you may need to do a "repair" of the program from the orig disc.

Or see faq559-908

Just in case anyone's interested. I talked to my VAR and they had the same problem, so it's a legitimate bug.

It happens when ctrl+dragging a part from the feature tree into an assembly that has a mate reference at the assembly level.

Please clarify your second sentence.

BTW: I have never seen or heard of this problem and we have many levels of mated assemblies nad subassemblies where we drag and drop parts by both methods. And believe me, some of our folks squeel like a pen full of hogs if something doesn't appear to work the way they think it should. So I am very intrigued to find out more about the problem.

SW2004 does have an annoying preference for the first component or the most recently inserted if you use insert component, but you can get around that.
