Hi Everybody,
I am not a protection and coordination guy but I am venturing to this new area and it is an exhaustive field. Could you plz advise me, where on the web I can find a literature section that can give me a better idea about types of CT's and PT's and selection criterion. As for example, where we would use a zero sequence CT and how many cables will run through it and for example can a window type CT can be a zero seq CT. These are just questions that come to my mind. I am starting with IEEE protection and coordination book but its chapter on CT and PT talks about the characteristics and not the types. A piece of advise for a specific web section would be appreciated.

Thanks

The whole Areva book is a good reference, although it has a definite IEC slant to things (if you're in that part of the world so much the better, if not, well it's a bit weak in ANSI specifics). The standard reference is Blackburn's Protective Relaying: Principles and Applications.

Hi Guys,
One more question, How do we decide we have to select NFPA or IEEE for Arc Flash Analysis.

Thanks

Like so many things, it depends. NFPA 70E has a method of calculating arc flash energy as does IEEE 1584. NFPA 70E recognizes the IEEE 1584 calculations as an acceptable alternate method. I think that most working professionals use the IEEE 1584 calculations over the NFPA 70E calculations, but the level of PPE required comes from NFPA 70E.

Hi Everybody,

Thanks for the earlier responses. I have a quick question, how we can decide as per on the application basis that it needs a splicing arrangement for connecting two cables or a cable coupler. Just wanted to find out, how some body can choose from either one of them.
Thanks
