I have two Vt 903 turbo diesels in my 41ft boat. last year we changed out all 8 injectors with a set of rebuilts from a local distributor. We set the injectors to .187 per the tech pub. The boat developed a large amount of exhaust smoke. so we talked to a fellow operator who said that because the injectors get rebuilt so many times the fuel chamber begins to grow. Whats happening is the engine is getting more fuel than it needs. We than went threw and set all our injectors to .180. This has solved the problem and recovered lost horsepower we make 25 knts up from 24.good luck

has the engine been run many hours with the injectors at 180? My mechanic would only go to 185 because he did not know if the engines would like the heat.

Yes
the injectors have approx. 1000 hours on them. However i must remind everyone that theses injectors are rebuilds and have been around since 1972.

Happy hunting

Chris
