Are there any other considerations besides inrush, outrush and transient frequency when sizing current limiting reactors for capacitor banks? I am expanding an isolated 67 MVA 119 kV capacitor bank to 112 MVA and need to replace the current limit reactors that have an impedance of 5000 uH with ones that have a higher continuous current rating.
Using IEEE 1036 to calculate the inrush, outrush & frequency, I have found that 1000 uH would limit all of these to below the circuit breaker limits. Do I need to consider just the capacitor bank breaker, or also the other eight circuit breakers on the substation bus? The larger reactors cost more than twice as much, so I would definitely like to use the smaller ones if possible.
