I want a custom button that opens a search of a certain network drive. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Do you mean open Windows Explorer at a certain Drive? Or are you talking about AutoCAD OPEN at a certain place?

Ok my problem is I am redoing an entire drawing library and the drawings are saved all over the network in random locations. When ever I need to search for a drawing I need to go to the start menu and go to search and change it to a different drive. I want a button in AutoCAD that I can click on that will open a search right into the right network drive.

Thanks

Darken, which version are you running?

In 2004, click Open, then you have to navigate to the folder you want to usually open. Once you see that folder, single click it and drag it to the left dark area known as the Places and drop it underneath an icon. Now whenever you click Open, that folder will be there in the Places section on the left side of the Select File Window. See below...

See the IQEP-C folder? I put that there to speed things up when working on projects within that folder.

I have that set-up already... but there is over 50 random folders they have saved stuff under and it is faster to search for things then try to locate it by looking in each folder.

Thanks though

you can use the shell command:
shell
explorer c:\mypath

Here is a potentially goofy idea:
In a Windows Search window, find all *.dwg files.
Then ctrl-a to select all of them.
Then right-click move them to another folder and select make shortcut.
Now you have a single source for all dwg files.

Another way to do this would be to use the Windows operating system to create a virtual drive built from and including all the folders that contain dwg files. Check with your network administrator.
