I have created a part with a Linear hole pattern. I created a custom property in that part that is linked to the quantity of holes in my hole pattern. The quantity number shows correctly in the custom properties dialog box in the model.
O.K. this works as I expected.

I created a drawing file of the part. I inserted a note and linked the note to the custom property, for the hole pattern, in my model.
This does not work as I expected.

The note displays the "property" text: example "QTY_Holes@LPattern1" not the actual quantity value.

I have linked all sorts of notes to model custom properties with no problems (i.e. weight, material, descriptions) but I can not get this to work.

I think I am overlooking something here. Can anyone help?

TIA

(see above)
By the way...I created a note in the part, instead of the drawing, then I linked the note to the same custom property and it works as I expected.

There are 3 options when linking text to a model in a drawing.

1) Current Document
2) Model in view to which the annotation is attached
3) Model in view specified sheet properties

I tried an example and 1 didn't work, but option 2-3 did.

Now when you double click the text or link the the text to the custom property the "QTY_Holes@LPattern1" will show up. But once you exit the text entry box, the number is displayed.

I'm using SW03 SP1 Windows XP and Windows 2000 np here.

If you are having the correct result on the part custom property, I will assume that there is nothing wrong with it (if you change the number of istances, does the custom property refresh OK?).

Edit the note on the drawing and check if it's something like $PRPSHEET:"custom_property_name".

If you don't find any errors, try a fresh start.

You mention "QTY_Holes@....". Did you change the dimensions name? Are the links updated according to new name? Try another name; maybe the name is conflicting with something else in SW.

Good luck

THANK YOU!! It now works. I renamed the dimension name to "QtyHoles" and now it works.

Originally I changed the dimension name to "QTY_Holes" (I like to do this on some dimensions because I sometimes use these dimensions in equations. This makes them more intuitive than "D1@Lpattern"). I changed the dimension name early in the model long before creating the drawing.
I didn't check the links on this drawing as macPT suggested but I did create new ones. I've tried this with several models/drawings and I could never get this to work for Lpatterns. It worked elsewhere but not for Lpatterns. I had did always used the dimension name "QTY_Holes". I thought it shouldn't make any difference. I couldn't accept the fact that it wouldn't work that's why I kept trying and finally I posted to this forum.

Most likely it was simply a short circuit between my chair and my keyboard %-

Thanks again!
