Hi,
I have an assembly soliworks file of a semitrailer. I am trying to simplify it into beams. I was able to extract the structure into beams and beams profiles using Prepare - Beams - Extract tool in Spaceclaim direct modeler. Then connected the geometry file scdoc to static analysis in ANSYS, the file includes lines only which is what I want.

The second step is to use ANSYS Designmodeler (DM) to assign cross sections to these lines.

Now, the problem is: Spaceclaim generously extracted beam profiles which is quite a list of custom beam profiles. But ANSYS DM only allows creation of custom profiles by manually drawing them in sketches.
Is there any way of importing the beam profiles from Spaceclaim into ANSYS DM as custom sections?

Thanks

David Smith

David,

Can't you skip the DM step? The extracted beam sections in SpaceClaim will be transfered to Mechanical. Make sure to set the Mixed Import Resolution to "Line" or "Surface and Line" in the Advanced Geometry Options in the Geometry Cell of the project schematic.
