Would anyone know what drives the design of cut-out reinforcements? For eg: how do I go about designing a pax door cut-out surround? What would my design drivers be? I can think of the skin stress being a limiting parameter. But are there any other? Also, if you are doing an initial sizing without complicated FE models, how does one go about it?

Assuming a pressurized fuselage:
- loads from pressure on door
- fuselage bending/shear loads transmitted around opening, combined with pressurization loads
- consider Kt in skin in corners
- need to size the frames and intercostals, and the joints to the skin

A lot depends on what kind of airplane, size of door and location, etc.

Have you looked at Niu's books?

if you are designing a pax door surround, and asking this question, I recommend you stop now and get professional assistance.

There are so many factors that depend on the specifics of the design that it is meaningless to list them.

Obviously loads are important ... shear, fuselage bending, pressure, fatigue, etc.

The type of door is significant ... how is the door hinged ?

Have you looked into Bruhn or Niu ? as a starter ??

Have you reviewed other pax door installations ??
