Is there a way in acad2000 or 2004 to
enclose something like a connection on
a structure and select it for use as a detail ?

on our current cad system we have something called
cut select which allows us to enclosed an area
and cut/select this for use as details...

Hello rwbaker,
You need to switch to PS and create a viewport thru the VPORT command. Double click inside the viewport. Change the Zoom factor with ZOOM with the XP option. At the command prompt give AV (aerial view) command and use the scroll wheel and move to the detail you want to see. Hope this helps - John

thanks cadstudent
but what i want to do is create a detail of
an area instead of redrawing it.

like on structures detailing connections

can i select or enclose an ara and use it
as a detail...possibly scaling it
a couple of times ...

CadStudent has it right.
Go to a layout tab
Type MVIEW and make a box
Double click in the box and zoom in to your detail
Double click outside the box, now you can move the box or resize it.
There are lots of other things you can do with viewports.

You will have ONE model and MANY views of it.

Are you looking for an outside contour of a group of entities? We use AutoCAD Mechanical and it has a built in INNER-COUNTOUR and OUTER-CONTOUR creator. It makes a ployline around/inside of objects.
