CVF and Windows 7

I used to do more FORTRAN programming but haven't done much lately. We have Compaq Visual FORTRAN loaded on Win XP and we will get Windows 7 in a few months. I am wondering if my old CVF will run on Win7 (32 or 64 bit)? Has anyone had any experience with CVF and Win7?

It doesn't run on Vista so I doubt it would run on W7. Best use it in an XP VM.

Thanks for the tip. I guess my choices are to pay for the Intel version and upgrade to Intel Fortran for the once or twice a year I need to modify my old Fortran routines, or try to install the CVF in Win7 and see if I can get it to work, or look into the GNU gFortran compiler.

I went to the wiki for the gFortran package and it is a little over my balding head. Has anyone been able to get the GNU fortran compiler to work in Win 7 (32 or 64)?

Hi there:

Over the Internet, I have read that "old" Windows XP compatible stuff that does not run under Windows Vista, could and/or should run under Windows 7 ...

The best thing is to give a try and see what happens when you have your software loaded and installed on a Windows 7 computer ...

In a long run, the best thing is to pay the dues to both Microsoft and Intel and your "old" FORTRAN routines and code will run no matter what the operating system and FORTRAN complier are out there -- as long as you have access to the compatible operating system and FORTRAN complier combination such an approach would result in having no compatibility issues to deal with ...

If your version of W7 is not the home edition, it may have XP mode which is supposed to run XP compatible programs on W7. Seems to work on 64-bit W7 but I haven't tried it on 32-bit W7 yet (mainly because I don't have a 32 bit machine that has enough resources to run it).
