Hi,

I am working on designing a CVT/Motor combination for use in a snowmobile; the motor has will make peak power in the 9500 RPM range. My question is does anyone know of any reliable documentation that contains formulas for calculating desired belt tension for given parameters? (ie: RPM, Power, clutch drive diameter, and Secondary diameter, belt size, etc). The system will be dry and the clutch will hang right off the crank, so forces on the clutch become extremely important in terms of crankshaft bending moments and consequent stresses on the journal bearings. Any information would be appreciated.

Your belt force will be determined by the coefficient of friction between the belt and pulley and the input torque.
