Looking into getting my CWI, but I want to ask if my experience will count.
AWS website has the following requirements:
Minimum Education Minimum Work Experience
Associate or higher degree in Engineering technology, engineering or a physical science 3 years
High School diploma plus 2 or more years engineering/technical school courses 3 years
High school diploma plus 1 yr engineering/technical school courses or one or more years
of vocational education and training in a welding curriculum 4 years
High school diploma or approved high school equivalency diploma 5 years
At least 8th grade education 9 years
Less than 8th grade education 12 years
I should fall under "High School diploma plus 2 or more years engineering/technical school courses", which would require 3 years work experience. I'm currently pursuing a BS in Nuclear Engineering & Technologies, and I should have more than enough to cover the 2 years of credits.
I was a Nuclear Machinist's Mate on a submarine for 4.5 years, 8.5 years total time in the Navy. During that 4.5 years, I was the Lead Emergency Welder. I think that would count, seeing as how we had to consistantly requalify, even though we only used GTAW and we were using military specifications instead of AWS.
I've been an ASME Authorized Inspector for about 3 years, and welding inspection/NDE is a big part of the job. Would that count as well?
Maybe I should just give them everything I have and let them sort it out, but I'd like to hear yalls thoughts. Thanks in advance!
