Hi,

Could a user of CYMGRD tell me what the "number of elements per conductor" is?

(I have modelled a ground grid of a substation using Autocad and imported into CYMGRD. All the conductors and rods are asymmetrical.)

It is a common practice to divide the current paths using two or more conductors in parallel. It is often used in electrical machines and power transmission lines designing and construction. Here, it is the same reason: to divide the calculated fault current. The program needs to know the total cross section of the grounding conductors in order to decide if it matches with some other parameters previously established. It will multiply the number you input with the cross section of the single conductor used.
 
After I posted my question, I found the answer:

"Element" refers to the finite element method and defines how many element each conductor/rod will be divided into for computation purposes.

(Poor manual :)



 
I don't use CYMGRD, but I suspect that the program is asking for how many separate segments to use for each conductor in the analysis. Analysis of a long conductor is more accurate if it is broken into smaller segments. The program manual or help screens should give you guidance on how many segments to use. More segments usually means more accuracy and longer calculation time.
