Hi Guys,

Anyone have daily sewage flows for a library? I am designing a septic system for the library, but our state code does not list flows for a library. Maybe I could use flows for retail (50 GPD per 1000 SF

If you can't find some values in a handbook try surveying existing libraries in your area. Look at their water use records, especially in wet weather when irrigation use is minimal. You should be able to develop some useful data of your own this way.

good luck

I'm not an expert on this, but isn't there a method of estimating a building's daily flow based on the number of plumbing fixture units in the building? You might check with a local plumber or a local plumbing inspector.

Just a thought!

jheidt is correct. Using the plumbing code waste fixture unit method would work but it will give you a peak instantaneous flow rather than an average daily flow. Also, in my experience it is very conservative in order to avoid undersizing piping. It would still, I believe, be better to use actual flows from similar facilities.

If you have a mechanical engineer on this job ask him/her if they have already calculated the demand fixture units and the waste fixture units. No need to reinvent this wheel.

good luck
