Hi everybody!
I'm projecting some wheel gates for a dam in my country.
Gate is submersed.
I would like some advice from you.
Pressure for these gates is 10 bar.
Gate dimensions are 3m(wide) and 4,5m(high).
Wheight of gate is 5600 Kg.
Can anyone rocemend me what kind of actuator(hoist)should be used.
Wire rope hoists or Hydraulic hoists?
And which is the best system for coating against corrosion.

Best regards.

Your biggest problem is lifting those gates - heavy steel I presume. My first thought is to use an electric heavy-duty wench like those used on large pick-up truck. That would probably be the easiest to modify to meet your needs.

A hydraulic hoist, such as used on utility trucks to lift a crane, is an alternative. Probably difficult to purchase and modify to your situation.

Corrosion is always going to be a problem. Use the best grade of steel you can afford (stainless?), and an epoxy coating will help where ever possible.

This is a case where actual calculated design is not possible. Just remember: the stronger you make everything and the better quality material used will reduce future maintenance cost and effort in the future.

Thanks very much Ben.
The biggest problem about the hoist is that the hydraulic hoist costs more than wire rope hoist and at the other side the hydraulic hoist is more secure for closure of the gate.

I am using ASTM A36 or ASTM A572 Steel for the structural elements.
I am interested to know where i can find manufacturers of gate seals in europe.
If anyone can help me with any website of gate seals manufacturers. I am having difficulties to find one.
