Hi Gents!
Does any body know where the values for Severity Index used for calculating the Damage Factors come from? What is the supporting theory behind these numbers?
Please see attached picture for an example of these values I am talking about. Essentially my question would be: what is the technical reason or theory behind those 5000, 500, 50 and 1? Why no 8000, 800, 80, and 1 for instance?
We are developing a customized methodology for our RBI assessments based on API 581 but we have some active damage mechanisms not addressed in API 581. Of course, we need to address these DMs in our RBI assessments to cover all our assets damages and risks. A consultant company working with us in this project suggested a sort of damage factors calculation path as well as Severuty factor numbers, but the have not shown me the reason behind those figures, despite I have asked them several times to do so. I do not want to say and think that they just threw those values to get rid of these issue, but they should be able to explain me the reason behind every number and assumption they are considering in this.
I hope you have some experience in this that could share with me. Of course some suggestion or comments are more than welcome.
Kind regards,
Cesar
