Damaged file

During some final filleting on a finished part the hour glass came on for a moment and SW closed.

Checked in the auto recovery folder and there was nothing.

Opening the part gives the following message (after the part shows on the screen):

SolidWorks encountered an error opening the document.
Pleas contact your local Solidworks support representative for help in troubleshooting this problem.

Attempting a save of any type causes an immediate shutdown.
Anyone know what the support rep would suggest (mine isn't available until Monday)? Any other tricks?

Tried saving as a Parasolid but SW quickly shuts down.

A stab in the dark ... try opening and re-saving in eDrawing.

Good idea!

I was able to open the part file with e-drawings but I am not able to measure anything. At least I now have a picture to remind me of some details when I reconstruct the part. Unfortunately, e-drawings doesn't have a save as SW part file.

I know SW likes to support its VARs, but couldn't DS afford a 24 hour global help staff, available when the local reps are sleeping?

gary10 ... Don't do a Save as, just a Save.

Mike ... I'm sure they could, but that would probably cut into their profits and executive bonuses.

I'd recommend using Backups rather than Auto recover option or set your Auto Recover time to a lower minute total.
If you opened a Part at 9:00am saved at 9:30 your 9:00am file would have Backup-1 appended and the 9:30 save would be the exact filename. On next save the 9:00 backup-1 is renamed backup-2 and the 9:30 file becomes backup-1 etc.

You can also take a look at your Journal File which SolidWorks RX normally can get also if you open the DOS prompt or run command and enter "eventvwr" you can check for error messages and warnings related to the crash.

I used to work at a VAR and it was "Money Money Money" All they care about is that you pay Maintenance.
I used to contract at a Company that used Pro/E and they bought 1 seat with maintenance and their other seats were able to use the Install files from the former.

SolidWorks should strike a deal with "Verrizon F i o s" -Misspelt to prevent BINGing-

Like ATorT did with eyePhone to make a percentage of the business they'd make from offering faster download of Product Versions. Or offer a Non support maintenance where you trade VAR services for faster delivery of downloads. and maybe better servers.

How much does a 8GB flash drive cost nowadays? They could use dedicated flash drives and ship those in a much smaller Fed Ex package.
