Dames and Moore sampler and 800-pound hammer

Has anyone ever seen reference to using an 800-pound hammer when sampling with D&M sampler? I know of the 300- or 340-pound hammers. However, I have an 1972 Dames and Moore report that very clearly references a "D&M Type-U sampler driven with n 800-pound weight falling 24 inches." We are using some correlations from Foundation Engineering Handbook (Fang, 2nd Edition) to convert the blows obtained from this hammer and sampler to equivalent SPT values. I'm just wondering how common this hammer was in the past...

When I worked in Seattle (c. 1980), we always used the 300# hammer with the D&M sampler. Typically, it was a downhole hammer, called, "Jars." Now the entire weight of the Jars may have been 800#, but the falling part only 300#. About that I have no clue. . .

Never seen the 800# version, to my knowledge.
