what is the methods applicable to establish cooling load required for equipment in data center
area based ( w / m2) or breaking it down per equipment intended

what type of data center equipment is most sensitive to humidity regulation

Hello,

The best thing to do is to obtain an equipment load from your customer. We've done data centers where we've obtained the customer's equipment data and were able to design to it. We've also used rules of thumb based on the type of equipment that is going in a rack. For example, for non-dense server loads, we've used 3-kW per rack (about 1-ton per rack) as an anticipated cooling load. When we know that blade servers will be used, we increase that to 6-kW per rack (or more).

Humidity sensitivity would have to be based on the equipment your customer is using. For the most part, you can stay within ASHRAE guidelines and everything will be happy.


I'd also recommend looking into White Papers from Eaton and APC regarding Data center layout and cooling design. I recommend providing hot aisle or cold aisle containment if you have the option.

You can also look at the size of the UPS or multiple UPS's that are serving the data center equipment. That will give you your upper limit on cooling since that is all of the power that can possibly go into that room.
