Good afternoon,

I am currently pricing the chilled water pipework on a data centre, the flow and return circuits are serving in row cooling units. The flow and return pipework for the circuits are 100mm welded steel. The final connections to the in row coolers are 32mm. The detail on the drawing shows the flow and return tapping(branching) off the main 100mm circuits in 32mm. I have looked and there is not a 100mm x 32mm branch manufactured. What is the best way to achieve this connection ? Considering there are hundreds of them I don't want to get it wrong! Logic dictates 100x 50 branch then 50x32mm reducer but the drawings do not show this. Is the a job for a 100mm x 32mm welded socked?

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated

Many thanks [bigsmile]

If you are unable to a manufactured 100mmx32mm branch and wish to construct using 100mmx50mm branch with 50mmx32mm reducer, you need to submit an RFI through the proper channels to the designer of record requesting a variance or clarification. It is up to the DoR to approve the variance as an acceptable alternative, change the design, or provide a detail how the branch is to be made.

Thanks for the reply,

Do you think a 32mm welded socked will suffice in this case ?

As a designer I personally would not care if you used the T with a reducer, or provided a right sized welded socket. From a pressure drop perspective, and flow condition design, neither would have a great impact to my design. But dbill is probably right you should confirm with them they are ok with your plan.
