I'm using a Norwegian Realtime Analyzer to take measurements of vibration off of outdoor power equipment. I have the analyzer set to 119.8 dB = 1 G. I currently have a conversion formula to calculate m/s2 from dB at each frequency from 8 hz to 1000 hz. I'm not sure if it is right. Can any one provide me with an equation that I can compare mine to.

thanks

Well, as a check roughly 100 dB=1m/s/s using that reference value.

x m/s/s=(10^((dB-dBREF)/20))*REF

where REF is 9.81, and dBREF is 119.8

That seems to work.

Your confusion (if you are confused) is probably caused by using a reference value for the dB scale that is not equivalent to 0 dB. One way to reslove this is to enter the reference value for the dB conversion as 0 dB, ie 0 dB=10^-5 m/s^2

Then you don't need dBREF any more. Cheers
