DC motor for marine environment 1

Hi folks.

Currently am I working on my BSc final project, which involves the development of a fishing equipment for small boats. I am looking for a motor, gear, motor brake and encoder that is up to the task. I will design an enclosure around these parts that will be waterproof (at least IP67). Attached is a sketch of the envisioned motor enclosure and motor.

The requirements are:
Motor (+ gear):
• Input voltage: 12 and 24dcv. (motor may be ac with dc/ac converter)
• Output speed: max 300-500 RPM
• Able to be speed controlled.
• Output torque: at least 50Nm
• Can handle instantaneous operation in temperatures between -20 to 25°C
Brake:
• Holding torque: at least 1 Nm
Encoder:
• Low-resolution encoder (incremental)
Overall:
• Minimum IP54

I really appreciate any help you can provide.

That would be something like 2.6 kW output and will need in excess of 250 A DC at 12 V.

Is the maximum torque required over the whole speed range? Is it needed continuously?

There are no dimensions given for the motor enclosure, but it doesn't look like it could handle that output.

My bet is a DC motor, a simple H-bridge PWM controller and an SKF Sensor Bearing for the encoder. Cheap, sturdy, well protected.

Why would you not just buy a trolling motor. They've already done there homework waterproofing, bearings, cooling, etc, etc, etc. If you need some sort of special control hack a trolling motor setup. You'll be done in 1/10th the time and 1/2 the cost.

These specs are from a similar product to the one I am designing. However I wold be content with 20Nm max torque at 250RPM.
