dc motor protection

Hi, Being un familliar with dc motors I am hoping someone can help myself and a collegue with the following problem.
We have a 2.2Kwe 24v dc motor, we are looking at what protection we will need (In ac we would use a themal overload and contactor) what do we do on a dc motor

Hi,

I'd use a Battery Disconnecting contactor or a fuse. Bear in mind the allowances made for the motor's inrush current!

@ 24V, a 2.2KW motor may have a running current of several hundreds of amps. The inrush will likely to be between 4 and 7 times this value, but the duration (inrush) depends upon along it takes for the motor to get up to speed.
