I have to start learning DDE to get a PLC to communicate with an application (SQL server) trough to the PC serial port or Ethernet card. I would like to know if anyone has documention to suggest or anything that would help me get in touch with DDE and Serial port and/or Ethernet.

Thanx

DDE is rather slow. I recommend a HMI/SCADA package that can connect to your database using direct SQL server support or via ODBC. This positions you better for the future than relying on DDE. You can also run the HMI/SCADA software on the same computer as your SQL server if you choose, using one serial or Ethernet connection to you PLC. Make sure you compare and contrast the limitations of your proposed communications links.
