Dear All,
in order to monitor and record temperature values during cryogenic and fire testing of industrial valves, we are using, at the moment, a 16-channel signal reader (in particular: model SR630 by Stanford Research Systems; see Now we would like to replace it with a computer-integrated data acquisition card and a simple software, able to obtain final temperature graphs from the reading of 5 or 6 (type T or K) thermocouples.
We looked into National Instruments and LabView products, for instance, but it sounds like they're too complicated (and expensive) respect to our needs...
Does anybody have any suggestions?
Many thanks, 'NGL

Yes, I suggest:
If you want usable advice, give spec's .

If anything, Labview should be easier than anything you've used to date. Labview is nearly all graphical, so as long as you have the drivers installed for the hardware you're using, it should be quite easy to graphically program your desired outputs.

The easiest thing may be a paperless recorder with a network card or rs232 port. Many paperless recorders can save data in several formats, excel, txt.I usually suggest these to people who do not have the time to learn to program in labview.

You could buy a portable datalogger and hook it up to a PC for real time trends, data storage and data analysis.

plug and play !

I agree with IRstuff that Labview is very good and easy but some programming may be required.

Hope this helps,

For several years, I have used the HP (now Agilent) 34970A datalogger with a 34901A card to monitor temperatures. It connects to a pc/laptop. I am not an instrumentation guy, but it took little time to load the software that comes with it, and configure the graphical output to be useable. Original is 6 years old. Two others purchased since the original are used daily. Have had no real problems. When I needed technical support, they were very helpful. Problems experienced were usually caused by me, not the equipment.
