Dear frinds,

Could you guys please clarify why we do earth rod resistance measurement instead of earth impedance measurement.

It depends.
If you measure with a DC test set the result is resistance.
If you measure with an AC test set the result is impedance.
AC test sets are common.

By its characteristics and the geometry, the earth itself is not having any reactive components. Hence the earth is considered to be a pure resistance for all the practical purposes.

Earth resistance is essentially an impedance which offers a zero (or negligible) value of inductive reactance for the flow of AC current.
