Defining filter feature in SolidWorks

How can I define an already created object as "FILTER" with certain porous(holes)diameter in SolidWorks,

Appreciate your help,

To define it as 'FILTER', just rename it. As for the holes, you can define the material that they're in but if you want them to actually be there you'll need to create them yourself. That being said, I wouldn't recommend putting in hundreds of holes. It'll be a needless resource hog.

By "FILTER" I mean 'filter element', or geometrical defined material such a way that it behaves like a filter. It traps particles larger than 40(microns) and let the flow pass through. I dont wanna name it as "filter", I want it to behave like filter when running the simulation.

Just to add something else,..I already created a cylindrical object with pleats all around which looks like a filter, and now I need to put 40-micron diameter holes all around its surface. I cannot do that by extruding(as an e.g.)holes one by one, this seems silly since there are a lot!, it should be some way to do this job. The material is defined as Polyester.

Why do you need to put in the holes? Cancel that; you don't need to put in the holes. I'll bet dollars to donuts there is a way to define a surface as a 'filter', with parameters, in FloWorks.
As for your question about creating lots of holes, look at patterns in the help section. There are numerous ways to go about creating lots of holes.
One thing to understand is that creating lots of holes (features), especially a large/complicated pattern, will suck up your system's resources like there's no tomorrow. A good rule of thumb is to not create that which you don't absolutely need. Things like helical cuts for threads come to mind. For your filter, you could represent it graphically by using an appearance. While Polyester isn't a choice, I suspect one of the cottons would work as far as looks go.

FYI, I used the appearance feature to make the element(filter)meshed, this creates porous on the surface although you have no control over the sizes (40 microns in my case), but it roughly did the job,

Another question: the object(a chamber with a filter inside) is ready for the flow simulation, you should close the inlet and outlet as SW prompts you by putting "lids", I did so but it keeps giving the error saying: "The selected face dose not contact fluid or it is an external face of the model"

I changed the lids but still doesn't proceed the flow running to the chamber,


Any idea?
