Definition of Nozzle 1

Good day

I did a project to remove the flange from discharge nozzle underneath the LPG horizontal Vessel, discharge was welded directly. Now the first flange is located 6m away from the vessel. Please anyone clarify whether long pipe has to be consider as a integral part of the vessel (long nozzle) or after first weld it has to consider as discharge pipe?
Does it defined in ASME VIII or API?
Please help me.

The nozzle detail of the vessel should be shown on the vendor's drawing and may be specified on the U-1 form.

ASME Section VIII Division 1 clause U-1(e)(1) defines the limits of the Code. In sub-clause (-c) it says the face of the first flange as you discuss above, but sub-clause (-a) allows the first circumferential weld joint.

Thus you could choose that the pressure vessel ends at the first circumferential weld, but that will mean the remaining 6m of pipe will have to meet the applicable piping code. For new construction this could result in some conflicting NDE or pressure testing requirements that might make removing this flange more trouble than it's worth. If this is an alteration to an existing vessel then you'll have to figure out the consequence of having to meet two codes.

You also asked about API, even though that wouldn't seem applicable to your vessel. API 650 clause 1.2 has similar limits (i.e. first flange or circumferential joint).

Check the nameplate of the vessel to determine the code used in its construction. I am certain that it is an ASME tank therefore, there should be a National Board number. Before you engage in altering this pressure vessel, make sure that you comply with the provisions within the National Board Inspection Code (NBIC) requiring 1)the submition of form R-1 to document the alteration, 2) qualified welders 3)pressure test 4) conformance of material to the applicable section of the ASME Code. NBIC will detail all those requiremnts plus others.
