Definition of "fitments, stirrups, ligatures, ties, etc."

I see these terms thrown around quite loosely and have never given much thought to what they really mean, other than to vaguely describe shear or transverse reinforcement in beams and columns

I wonder how everyone understands these particular terms? Or if there is any good reason in the first place to be specific about these?

Gusmurr, run a search in AS 3600 for these terms for Australia usage. They used to be interchangeable. Then tie was reserved for strut & tie context in the standard, though not necessarily the general construction industry population. I think fitment now means a closed shape specifically.
 
I'll give you my definitions, but others may disagree.

Fitments and ligatures are any relatively small bent reinforcements.

Stirrups are fitments used as shear reinforcement in beams.

Ties are fitments which brace column verticals.

But then, a tie is also a tension reinforcement.
