I have a question about various software that is used in testing, namely Shock and Random Vibe.
I'm an M.E. so I understand the basic definition of DOF but in the various software that is used in these tests there is usually a degrees of freedom slot in the software interface that requires a number (usually 180).
I've done a some searching/reading and my understanding of this is that this particular "degrees of freedom" is basically the resolution or sampling rate within the fourier transform.
Is this DOF the same thing as the mechanical equivalent that is always shown for fourier's xform ie: multiple mass/ spring/dampners. In other words, when you input 150 DOF does this mean you are in effect selecting 150 separate mass/spring/dampners each with a separate natural freq.
