Hi, I'm a newbie.

I am working in a drawing and i have drawn and ellipse. But now i can't delete it. Its there in grey, i can't select it. its just there....but i want it gone! i think i drew it in a view and then deleted the view but the ellipse stayed. please advise. thanks.

Is it drawn in the drawing format? Right click, Edit Sheet Format.

When i do that the ellipse disapears along with the rest of the views, all that is left is the title block and junk like that.

Try moving each of your views around. Does the ellipse move with any particular view?

If it does, it is linked to that view - which must be active in order to select the sketch.

If not, it is linked to the sheet - right-click on the sheet and "Lock sheet focus" to select the sketch.

MElam.......THANKYOU! (thanks ctopher also for your advice)

locksheet focus did the trick. although i have no idea what it does.....it worked! thanks again.

Lock sheet focus was also my next suggestion. It is for, for example, adding skecth geometry to a dwg without "linking" it to a view. Right-click lock sheet focus, draw sketch, right-click, unlock sheet focus.
Helpful for drawing schematics if you don't have Visio.

If your sketch was drawn inside of a view (meaning the view was active when you drew it) you can activate the view (double click inside the view, select from tree, or dynamically depending on your settings). When the view you have drawn in is active the sketch will be blue. If you drew outside of the views (on the paper) then clicking on the sheet outside of the views should make it blue. Editing the sheet is going to the template level, usually drawing does not get done here unless you have a specific need for it.

Imagine that a SW drawing is a set of windows, each with a different view on your part. The sheet itself counts as its own window. When you draw sketch curves on a drawing, they are assigned to the active view. Using "Lock Sheet Focus" or "Lock View Focus" forces SW to select from entities that belong to that particular view.
