Deleted commands in between NX 8.5, 9.0 and 10?

Two of my co-workers just told me yesterday that they don't like working in NX9.0 and NX10 because there were commands my co-workers needed that were deleted. I asked them what commands were deleted and didn't receive an answer. I asked them why would Siemens delete commands? It seems like my co-workers are simply comfortable working in NX8.5 and don't want to learn anything new. Like they are stuck in a rut. But to be fair, I found this forum, read through some great information and I will ask the Guru's here the question. Did Siemens delete commands between NX8.5 to NX9.0 and NX9.0 to NX10? Or are they simply moved and updated in appearance? Because the latter is what I believe from my experience.

Usually when a new command is created, the command it is to replace will be hidden. If you use the Command Finder, you can see if the command still exists, and if it is hidden. If hidden, you can add it back to your toolbar, but I would advise them to start using the new command, as the old command will probably go away in another version or two.

As Dave stated, Teach them to use the command finder. Dome commands may have been renamed also.

Whenever you move to a new version of NX, make sure that the "assemblies" application is activated (in NX 9 it can be found on the "applications" tab). Commands related to assemblies (including wave linking) will be disabled until it is turned on.

One big change in NX 9 (other than the ribbon interface) is the "rapid dimension" in drafting. I don't think it removed any functionality (although this is debatable), but it did move things around. Also, the "settings" dialogs in drafting have been updated and changed significantly. The settings dialog has a "find" option at the top that works similarly to the command finder; this comes in handy if you know what you are looking for but can't find it.

Also, if you have various license "bundle" options, make sure the proper bundles are selected (gateway -> file -> utilities -> select bundles). Though I imagine if they were missing an entire application (routing, FEA, etc) they would complain more loudly than they did.

Very few commands are "deleted" but more and more ,in newer versions, become hidden.
Every time Siemens tries to actually delete something, there is always somebody that climbs to the barricades and screams that he cannot live without this command... - So therefore,
They first make the command non-present in the menus but you can still make it appear in the menus. - Use the Command finder.
Then they put it under a system variable such that you have to call GTAC and ask for the command / The system variable. ( this gives feedback on how many actually uses that feature.)
And finally there are some features where the code still exists in NX but Siemens won't tell how to enable it because there is new functionality which replaces. I think the old Sheet metal form/unform is such one. If You have a old file with this feature You can still do the form / unform but i don't think it's possible to create a new in NXx.
( - Try edit a very very old sketch and you will see. - All the menus are still there ! )

I've noticed that there are times when a command is planned to be retired that it might be marked as such in the message that pops up when you hover over the icon - it might also indicate as such in the menu, but I rarely use the pulldown anymore.

Thorough reading of the documentation (both the standard Help and What's New) can also bring major changes to light. The sooner you review these (as they become available) the more often you can pass this info along to your coworkers so they're at least aware that change is coming.

I know the env variable that allow to activate in modeling the retired function "flange", but it doesn't work anymore in NX11: Any Idea ?

No, i did not know that the Old-flange had an environment variable. - What was so unique about the old flange that made it have a system variable ?
The Old- form/unform ( flat pattern feature ) was a little quirky, but it did flatten everything.
